Japan is one of AliExpress's most engaged markets in East Asia. Japanese buyers order DIY tools, electronics gadgets, fashion accessories, smart home devices, and cosplay supplies from AliExpress in large volumes. This guide covers everything you need to know about shipping to Japan in 2026: delivery timelines, Japan Customs simplified declaration rules, how to track packages via Japan Post and Yamato, active promo codes, konbini payment options, and how to detect fake discounts before you pay.
Most realistic expectation: 10–14 days door to door for standard shipments to major Japanese cities (Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, Fukuoka). Rural prefectures and remote islands may add 2–4 days for final Japan Post delivery.
Factors affecting delivery to Japan
Carrier at origin: Japan Post ePacket is the gold standard for AliExpress standard deliveries to Japan — fully tracked from dispatch to door and significantly more reliable than unregistered China Post Air Mail.
Japan Customs clearance: Japan Customs is highly efficient. Most parcels clear within 1–2 business days. Electronics, multiple identical units, or orders with high declared values may be held for closer inspection.
Last-mile carrier: Japan Post handles the majority of AliExpress standard deliveries. Yamato Transport (クロネコヤマト) and Sagawa Express (佐川急便) handle some premium carrier handoffs depending on the shipper.
Peak season: Singles' Day (November) and 618 (June) add 5–10 days to dispatch processing. Golden Week (late April to early May) in Japan can also delay domestic last-mile delivery.
Tracking AliExpress parcels in Japan
Go to AliExpress → My Orders → Track Order
Copy the tracking number — common prefixes: LP (Cainiao Standard), RR/EE (China Post registered/EMS), JVGL (DHL)
Paste it at 17track.net — covers both the China/Cainiao leg and Japan Post leg in one view
Once in Japan, switch to the Japan Post tracking page (japanpost.jp) using the same LP/RR/EE number for real-time last-mile status
For DHL Express: track directly at dhl.com using the JVGL tracking number
Expected tracking events sequence:
Dispatched from China → Processed by Cainiao hub → Departed origin country → Arrived Japan Customs → Customs cleared → Handed to Japan Post → Out for delivery → Delivered
Japan Customs — What You Need to Know
Import duty framework for AliExpress parcels
Japan Customs administers postal imports through the simplified declaration system under the Customs Tariff Law.
Order Value (CIF)
Customs Treatment
Under ¥10,000 (~$65 USD) — personal use
Typically exempt under simplified declaration (small-amount special rules)
¥10,000–¥200,000 (~$65–$1,300 USD)
Import consumption tax (10%) + customs duty by HS code
Over ¥200,000 (~$1,300 USD)
Full formal customs entry required
Commercial quantity (multiple identical units)
Full customs treatment regardless of value
Practical threshold: Japan's simplified declaration de minimis is ¥10,000 CIF (cost + insurance + freight). Personal imports below this value are typically exempt from both import consumption tax and customs duty. This is one of the more accessible thresholds in Asia — though at current USD/JPY rates around ¥150/$1, it equates to roughly $65 USD, which is relatively low for budget-conscious shoppers.

Japan is electronics-friendly: Japan applies 0% duty on many electronics categories — one of the lowest electronics import duty regimes in Asia. This makes AliExpress particularly attractive for electronics and gadget purchases when orders are above ¥10,000.
Total landed cost example
For a ¥7,000 (~$47) phone accessories order:
Below ¥10,000 threshold → likely exempt from duty and consumption tax
For a ¥15,000 (~$100) clothing order:
Above ¥10,000 → 15% import duty = ¥2,250 → 10% consumption tax on (¥15,000 + ¥2,250) = ¥1,725 → total added ¥3,975 (~$26), approximately 26% additional
Tip: Keep individual order values below ¥10,000 CIF when possible to benefit from the simplified declaration exemption. The CIF value includes the item price plus shipping and insurance as declared — choose free standard shipping to minimize the CIF calculation.

Best Categories for Japanese AliExpress Buyers
Lowest customs duty risk (0–5%)
Electronics gadgets: Smart speakers, LED strips, mini projectors, portable chargers. 0–5% duty. Orders under ¥10,000 often clear without any duty.
Phone accessories: Cases, cables, screen protectors, car mounts. 0–5% duty. Most orders under the ¥10,000 threshold clear entirely.
DIY tools and hobby supplies: Soldering kits, breadboards, craft tools, 3D printing accessories. Minimal duty, well-suited for AliExpress's selection.
Moderate value, worth checking customs math
Cosplay and anime accessories: Wigs, props, costumes. Clothing/textile duty applies (10–20%). Calculate landed cost for premium cosplay sets above ¥10,000.
Smart home devices: Smart plugs, security cameras, LED controllers. 0–5% electronics duty. Larger sets may push over the ¥10,000 threshold.
Higher duty categories — calculate before buying
Clothing and footwear: BCD 10–30% depending on category. A ¥12,000 clothing order could add ¥1,800–3,600 in duty plus consumption tax — compare against Japanese domestic options (Uniqlo, ZOZO) before purchasing.
Watches and luxury accessories: 3–10% duty. Budget watches under ¥10,000 often clear fine; premium-look pieces above the threshold face assessment.
Payment Methods for Japanese AliExpress Buyers
Credit and debit cards: Visa, Mastercard accepted from major Japanese banks (SMBC, MUFG, Mizuho, Rakuten Bank). JCB is accepted by select AliExpress sellers.
Konbini payment (convenience store cash): AliExpress supports konbini payment via payment gateways for Lawson, FamilyMart, and 7-Eleven on select checkout flows. Useful for buyers without international payment cards — pay in cash at a convenience store within the deadline window.
PayPal: Available in AliExpress Japan checkout for PayPal-registered accounts.
How to Detect Fake Discounts on AliExpress
During the 618 sale and other promotional windows, many sellers inflate the listed price 2–4 weeks before the event, then "discount" back to the normal price. The badge says "50% off" but the effective savings are zero.
How to check:Install AliShopping Tools → open any AliExpress product page → the 90-day price history chart appears automatically inline on the product page.
Real discount: Price was ¥1,200 for 3 months, now ¥780 during 618 → genuine 35% off
Fake discount: Price was ¥780 for 3 months, seller raised it to ¥1,200 two weeks before 618, now "discounting" back to ¥780 → 0% real saving
This is especially common in electronics accessories and cosplay/anime items during sale events.
